Snyder's parents were married in a Quaker ceremony in 1963 in Ohio, and his mother was active in preserving her family farmstead as a Quaker historic site. ![]() Snyder was born on August 18, 1969, in the Dayton, Ohio area, the son of Christine Hadley Snyder, a teacher, accountant, and homemaker, and Estel Eugene Snyder, a veterinarian. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Snyder serves on the Committee on Conscience of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Several of them have been described as best-sellers. He has written several books, including Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin and On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century. ![]() Levin Professor of History at Yale University and a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna.
